A US court has apparently ruled that It's ok for an ISP or email provider to read the email you send through them. So anyone who sends email through Hotmail or gmail or other web provider now has no privacy where their email is concerned.

I don't think Australia has similar rules. There was an acerbic comment in the next Risks Article about ISPs blocking port 25 - but that's something the ISPs are doing to stop email virii from sending out SPAM through unsuspecting users' connections. My ISP at least allows you to unblock that port if you cross your heart and promise to never SPAM and always keep your AV up to date (with the proviso that if you do send out SPAM, the block goes back on.

But even so, as privacy invasion goes, this is pretty strong.
