I think I killed it

Two files got crosslinked on our new machines, and the scandisk separated them but didn't mend them. One was a system library and the other was a font file, that seemed to be used by most of the web pages I visit.

So I decided to do a refresh of WIN98.

Silly me. They don't refresh. They install from scratch - or at least they wipe all their own info.

It's refusing to accept the regular rego number. This might be to do with the fact that it's not the rego number that came with this disk. (Don't ask. And don't buy from sellers who offer you a great deal then don't give you the software disks. And only borrow your neighbour's disk if it's exactly the same as yours.)

So it's sitting there, flickering occasionally and not talking to me.

Darn it, I'm going to have to go and buy a new Win 98 disk. And I sold my soul to someone else a long, long time ago.
