Thinking of shiny things.
Aug. 17th, 2003 06:20 pmToday I went to the Blaxland Gem show, intending to be good.
Really.
And I only bought about $10 Aus worth of the pretty shiny ones, like a haematite, and a couple of quartz crystals, and another clear crystal...
But I did buy $25 worth of large slabs (average 12cm x 18cm) that are part-polished. They'll probably need varnishing to make them look good, but they are for my evil purpose... as base-plates for various dragon and other miniatures.
You see, usually if you want to base a miniature, you use the black plastic bits. Stable, but boring.
But imagine a large dragon, looming over a party of hapless wandering adventurers, his very bulk reflected in the shiny crystalline floor of his lair - and all on the table in front of you.
Most of the crystals I bought are also for a dragon. I want to make a real-looking stash, gems and shiny things everywhere. That and when a certain bunch of adventurers find their hydra with the silver orbs, I'd like it to be in a cave with walls studded with silvery stones (haematite slivers) and paved with assorted shiny things.
