Dec. 29th, 2006 03:48 pm So has anyone ever made the straight-fronted corset? If so, any tips?
Hmmm...
Don't try this as your second-ever sewing project with the new sewing machine. The curtains for the first one was fine. This was not.
Don't assume that the gingham is rotatable, just to fit the pattern. With 10 out of the 12 pieces laid north-south, and the last two east-west, you'll never get the pattern to line up.
Buy proper bones. Using the plastic insides of hair-bands will be uncomfortable.
Buy a proper busk. Or it will take you 1 hour to put the bloody thing on.
Buy proper laces. Or you'll have to explain the diagonal rope-burns on your wrists from trying to lace it using venetion blind cords to your co-workers.
The pattern can be enlarged up to 18 inches quite nicely on the photocopier. Anything else has to be done by hand. I suggest adding 1/4 inch to each seam - it worked like a dream and gave me a 27 inch, which looked stunning and fitted well. Except for the broken bone bits. Don't wear the thing for more than 5 hours at a party with broken plastic bits sticking into you, or the bruises and chafing will take about 3 weeks to heal.
Wearing the gingham corset and a matching skirt and nothing much else to a party where your ex-boyf is, letting him leer down your cleavage, and then refusing to let him touch you makes one of the best revenges ever.
(You can stop laughing now)
