Things to keep you going.
Dec. 1st, 2010 11:38 pmSo I write a bit of fanfic, which nestles away on the Pit of Voles. Like most writers, I'm a little vain about it.1. So from time to time I check how many people have been reading my stuff.
Last month there was a huge jump when I posted a couple of new stories. That happens, and I expected it. But then, about a week later, there was a sudden jump in the number of visitors. When I looked closer, they were all reading one story in particular, a short fic on Albus Dumbledore in his youth and his dalliance with one Gellert Grindewald, that struck me as being very like Oscar Wilde and Bosie. Now that story had been up for a while, and I certainly hadn't beenpimping it like crazy lauding its brilliance in any other forums.
So now I'm curious. Someone, somewhere, has linked to that story, and I have no idea who. The usual searches haven't shown them up, and all I know is ... someone liked it. Enough to recommend it to others.
Dammit, where's my packet sniffer when I need it.
1. Me? Check my "how many people read this story" link compulsively? Refresh the page every quarter hour? Angst until the first figure shows up, even if it takes a whole five minutes? Surely not!
