One of my cousins sent me this, and it's sensible, logical and easy. There should be more campaigns like this.

Message from the Ambulance Service

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call.

He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'. Please forward this.

It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc...

and one is a lady by the name of Catherine Hay, who blogs as [livejournal.com profile] harmanhay and who also is a major part of Your Wardrobe Unlock'd and other sites of sewing temptations that people shouldn't go near if they don't want to be inspired.

And when I say Evil Dressmaking, she made a reproduction of a Worth gown two years ago that involved hand-sewing oak leaves for five hours a day for three months. It looked as good as it sounded, and she was kind enough to share the construction process with the rest of us.

So now she's hoping to go to Haiti with a relief team to help out there. Haiti is still in a mess, and a team of people are going to fly over and rebuild a community - at their own expense. And she wants to be part of it.

As a fundraiser, she needs to raise the $5000 for the support, plus her own flight and living expenses. So she's offered to make a copy of the Peacock Dress that she'll show off at Costume Con if she does. Actually, she's made a series of pledges, so if she only raises $500 she only makes the underclothes, and that's what she'll wear at Costume Con.

So if you'd like to sponsor a lovely lady on a quest to help out in Haiti, and also to see how she makes the outfit (because if you donate you get to see the process), or if you'd just like to see how insane she is, have a look at her journal.
