After taking the dog to the vet, it seems he may have a gastric ulcer. No food tonight, chicken and rice for the next few days, and more tablets tomorrow than I've seen in a while.

*sigh*

Silly dogget. What's he got to stress about? *smile*

Hopefully they've worked it out this time and the meds will set him right shortly. Meanwhile, he's looking like one of the very very few cases where I might consider pet insurance - after an extremely careful read through the T&C, mind you...

at least here in the states, pet insurance won't cover a pre-existing condition, and the pet needs to be continually insured for X months before they will cover a large claim (depending on the type of insurance you got).

I checked into it given the fact that over 2 years I've shelled out thousands for knee injuries on my dog. Still, the insurance would have had to have been purchased years ago to build up the "coverage" for his current issues. Coverage = I would have paid them more money over time than I would out of pocket on the spot for the treatment.

Oh, I'm well aware of that (former vet nurse here), and in most cases it's not worth it in the least. It's more that Dog-Or seems to be having more health problems come out of the blue as he ages, none of which are pre-existing as such.

I did say I'd only consider it, too; not only did I not memorise the conditions of every available policy down here, they may have changed in the few years since I left my last surgery. *smile*
