... investigating the possibility of repairing our electric blanket?

Well, it turns out that's not necessary any more.

An old schoolmate of [livejournal.com profile] lederhosen offered to have a look at the blanket for us, so I stripped off the bedding to remove the Electric blanket.

And this is what I found on my side.

Blanket Burn

So, it had burned through the electric blanket itself, the sheet I had under that, and then hit the woollen underlay. Luckily, wool chars rather than burning - so while it's got a nasty scorch mark on it, it's not burned through to the mattress.

Above, it made a nasty scorch mark on the mattress protector.

When I told my mother, she immediately offered a new one as an early birthday present. Needless to say we accepted that offer gladly.

And upon investigation, [livejournal.com profile] lederhosen discovered that that particular brand - "Mistral Linda" has had several recalls, although to be fair our model hadn't been.

So - no repairs to that blanket.

(It had cost somewhere around $150 when we first bought it, so it would have been nice to save some money, but there are limits).

My apologies for the post-spamming today. Nothing like a sick day at home to make one blurble on.

Yikes - I'm glad you didn't get burned alive.

Second to Dicky's comment.

I think I would send the picture to the manufacturer - they need to know.

I wanted to, but if you try finding contact details for 'Mistral Australia' you'll see what our problem was.

I’m very glad the puzzle was “why isn’t my electric blanket working?” rather than “why am I on fire?” And happy early birthday! And good for your mother for helping make sure you actually make it to your birthday! :-)

So why does someone in Australia need an electric blanket? It never even gets below freezing there!

Because more than six layers of blankets plus a quilt gets a bit unwieldy on a king size bed :P Also, the bed is warm when you get into it and it is luxurious.
