Phone call late last night from Ratboy's teacher. He's been staying with her to finish off the term, and this last week they had an excursion to Canberra.

And because he's repeated a year, this is the second trip to Canberra he's been on at this level.

So he decided that he wasn't going to go on the night part of the excursion - he took himself off to bed at the motel. Without telling anybody. And the "pairs" system didn't work because his partner (nice kid, rather quiet) didn't tell the teachers that Adam wasn't there until they realised that one kid was partner-less.

So his teacher and I had a long chat. I'm not going to go down and pick him up - 'tis better far that he finish out the excursion. He's had it explained to him that he's upset, worried and inconvenienced a lot of people. I'm going to try and have a chat with the school counsellor tomorrow. And I have asked his teacher to leave him at any one of the embassies for countries that have child slavery.

I reckon we ought to be able to get a mortgage payment at least for him.
