From This Wonderful Person comes a journal of dealing with someone whose level of cluelessness brings despair to their collegue. It includes the glorious quote:

I hope the chest pains are just my asthma playing up and not a sign of an impending coronary. Someone suggested via email that I try visualising a calm, blue ocean. I don't find calm, blue oceans to be inherently relaxing, so I mentally add a pack of sharks in a feeding frenzy with the Cow-Orker in the middle of them

Mmmmm. Blue Ocean.

(With thanks to [livejournal.com profile] cerebrate and [livejournal.com profile] korgmeister for that link. My work suddenly doesn't seem that bad any more. )

It's a variation of a deep breathing meditation which goes thusly:

Take a cleansing, deep breath.

Imagine yourself in a quiet setting beside a pool of clear water. Take a nice deep breath.

Look into the pool of water and imagine face of the person who's giving you the most pain within the waters. Take a soothing deep breath.

Imagine you have your hands around that person's neck. Lift that person's head out of the water to allow them one gasping breath before plunging them back under the water.

Take all the nice, long deep breaths you want.
