Yes, I've been making a lot of LJ entries. I make no apologies. It makes up for those people who barely make any.

The other day I was heading through the chemist's front door when the shopper alarm went off. As I was heading in to the building, they just smiled at me, and let me out when the alarms went off upon my exit.

For a couple of days nothing else happened. Then one bright afternoon I was entering Target and the alarms went off again. Now I had just been through a dozen other stores with alarm sensors without setting them off, so I was rather annoyed. I also had a very full bag and a backpack and a shopping bag full of evil things for a friend who's expecting random items, so we tried each bag individually.

Strangely, the culprit seemed to be the handbag, the smallest of the lot. I put down the other two, then started going through the bag to try and identify the offending item.

No prescriptions with security tags.

No DVDs.

Nothing obvious, just the wallet (tried that as it's new - nope); the usual assortment of letters to be posted and bills to be paid; the puffer; the car keys; a few sympish postcards that I was sending out to unsuspecting victims fell in by accident - but the alarm still went off.

Finally we resorted to an item at a time, and when putting through a fattish envelope addressed to [livejournal.com profile] madcowmoo, the bells went off.

The contents of this envelope? Assorted origami squares, a number of which were those brightly coloured foil ones about 4cm by 4cm. They were obviously exactly the size to induce an electromagnetic wave the exact strength and wavelength to trigger the security settings. We laughed about it, then I went off to post the envelope to the beautiful Moo.

That reminds me of a simillar incident i had happen to me. One day i noticed that i kept setting of shopper alarms. Sometimes just going in and not out or the other way around. I couldn't figure out what it was, i thought maybe my bag, or the new case for my CD player. These nice guys at the Games Wizards even put my bag through the desensitizer or whatever it's called to try and stop the magnetic reaction.

Eventually after walking through a Sanity store and setting it off with a small bag on, i went through everything and found it to be my wallet, which was rather new. I looked it over very confused cause i had removed all tags when i got it....but it had this sneaky little sticker that was hidden under a flap. Obviously the shop decided to put it there to prevent people from easliy finding it and removing it hence reducing theft. How nice of them to forget about it themselves and cause me so much embarrassment =P

I think someone wandering around Washington wondering why they were setting off all the Radiation detectors, would have more to worry about.

hehehe

Very cute.

At least you had some explanation for it - the last time I had something like that happen, I was apparently the thing setting off the alarm.

In a rayon dress and bare feet, no metal on my person.

V odd.
