Tripod are programming Rage and they've put on the whole of the "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", which is hilarious. I'd never seen the clip, and it's nicely taken up a 15 minute section of the night shift.

Excellent dinner tonight - I invited the very sweet [livejournal.com profile] mredragon and his lady for dinner and between them, [livejournal.com profile] lederhosen, [livejournal.com profile] da_norvegicus and his father, we had an evening of fine food and finer company. The dog enjoyed the company (but not being shut in the laundry for the eating part) and we imbibed a glorious 10 year old shiraz cabernet that [livejournal.com profile] mredragon brought. What more could one ask for? Then took the rodent for a run around the Doggie Heaven walking area where he gibboned and managed to find every puddle left after the rains. Home to drop my beloved and pack for the graveyard shift. Remind me when I get home to put that carefully-packed bag I left on the sink back into the fridge, would you?

Also remembered (dammit) that I'd forgotten to organise the [livejournal.com profile] hightea_society meet for tomorrow - the 7th instead for you guys? (Note left in that community journal)

Work summonned imperiously beckoned afterwards, and the trip in was surprisingly mellow - certain radio stations are starting to compete for the "I play the most obscure crap from the 1980s" title and I should really have lost my voice with the volume with which I was singing along. I realised that the after-effects of the wine, a few other bits and pieces, coupled with the time of year and the general feeling of joy have contributed to a fairly serious case of Spring Fever. Oh. My. Good thing general common sense keeps me from doing anything within the confines of work - it's certainly not for a lack of rather worthwhile subjects. Somehow I feel that this surge of hormone-driven mind-clouding distraction is likely to last for at least a week - luckily [livejournal.com profile] lederhosen doesn't have to go work in the morning. Oh Sweetheart? Are you awake?

Chatted with the workmates and then settled in - and then...

I had the call from hell.

I can cope with a customer with a disability, I can cope with a customer with an accent, and I can cope with one with nothing in the technical knowledge area, but the threesome combo was just a little too much for this poor bunny. He could talk to me, then I spoke to his TTY lady who typed the answers back to him. She was wonderfully patient and utterly understanding, but the situation was extreme. It took us 50 minutes to get to the point where he couldn't disable his anti-virus product, he didn't know whether his modem was on or not, and he couldn't type into his computer inetwiz. I recommended he get a friend who is technically able to come in and sit with him in the morning to fix up the problems. I think the most frustrating part was that I could have driven to his place, fixed the problem and gotten back to work in the same amount of time we took on the call.

*sigh*

After which it was my break, and I had received a couple of emails from [livejournal.com profile] quatranoctal and his lovely [livejournal.com profile] xmas_chan wanting to irc-chat. Alas, the work system does not allow for chat, so I rang instead - I wonder if they were as nervous about the call as I was? After all, it has been 2 years since I saw him last, and she (poor thing) is having to cope with my existence too. I'd forgotten how soft his voice is. We're going to meet up some time in November - expect hugely bouncy weird posts at the time. (Yeah, Chris, if you've read this far, and all those back posts, you'll know how embarrassing I can be.)

So now I'm sitting in a quiet call centre, unable to do the account updates until the accounting system finishes its weekly backup. Dinner in 5 minutes, and nothing planned for the morning (thank goodness - parental computer is sick but at least I can go straight home tomorrow).

This nightly rambling brought to you by too much coffee and not enough angsting.

The term "Spring Fever" is jarring, I keep having to remember that the time around which my small Southward portion of Canada starts getting cold, is when some parts of Australia begin to get warm...

Argh, deep sympathy. That would be painful indeed.

Oh, I've never seen the video for "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" and I LOVE that song. I never knew that there was a hole in my life caused by not seeing this video, but now I know and it's going to eat at me. What happened? Just Meat Loaf singing? Or squidging around in the back seat of a car with a girl? Or people playing baseball? Details, I beg of you!

Three Meatloafs. One is the greaser in the convertible with the 1950s style hair and clothes and girl. One is a seriously leather-and-stuff guy and the third is on a revival stage.

Alas, no sign of Ellen Foley in any of it.

Steve Martin makes an appearance too, a la Leap of Faith, which makes me think the vid was made in about 1992 instead of 1977. It's far too sophisticated for the 1970s.

My sympathies for the call - having been in the middle of a few like that while working with the Relay Service, I commend you for having the patience to sit through it all, even if it was pushing your averages up and turned out to be ultimately fruitless. I knowing just how many people wouldn't do so. *hug* What you wouldn't give for five minutes with a VNC in such circuimstances, eh?

As for Spring Fever, I'd say it was running rampant down here, but I don't know whether it counts when you get it in Summer, Autumn and Winter too. *blush*

Oh, it counts all right.

Spring just gives you a slightly better excuse.

Till the end of time!
