And let me make it very clear. Even one civilian death here is one too many. These people didn't do anything to us, nothing at all. There have been so many deaths, and when I read about them, they all make my heart clutch up in my chest. A family shot at a checkpoint, because the Western gesture for 'stop' is the Iraqi gesture for hello. Bodies dumped at roadsides after the insurgents killed them. Civilians caught in a crossfire, in a blowback, in a war. Too many of them, day after day after day.
The Iraqis just didn't do anytihng to deserve this. Nothing. And yet here we are.
I know how I felt when my mom died.
If you've lost someone you love, capture that memory for a moment. Close your eyes.
Now imagine that that person died as the result of well-meaning interference.
