Misery and Disappointment and Annoyance.
Apr. 4th, 2006 02:21 pmI've been rather quiet of late, due to (mainly) being too miserable about the puppy (see below) to want to write about it. Now you all suffer.
First of all, I'm going to sell off the kid and the dog. Life would be a lot cheaper that way.
You see, the doggie had a lump on the right ear, and another inside the left. The one inside the left ear turned out to be a harmless (but ugly) polyp. The one on the right ear was a rather nasty Mast Cell Tumour, which necessitated the removal of the entire ear. Luckily it hasn't spread to the rest of him, but he's a rather unhappy puppy, especially now that there's an abscess in one of the spots (probably caused by a combination of him rubbing it on the carpet and some internal infection). And he's cost us about $2000 so far in vet bills. My mother always used to threaten the $15 alternative, but that's now an $85 alternative, and besides, even with years of sick cats she never used that until there was no hope. And I had some of that money earmarked (no pun intended) for a visit to
sorscha and
sandypawozbun, so we're going to have to see if that can still go ahead. Dammit.
And the boy? Let's just say that adolescence has kicked in fairly hard, and there's things the whole family has to deal with. And on a fairly minor point, he's grown about 6 inches in 6 months, (at least!), so clothing is needing a complete overhaul. Oh - and the Lego has become enough of an obsession to now be banned, completely. So that also means no trip to Melbourne in June for Brickvention, which will also disappoint some of our friends.
OK - those two handled. Second, there's a touch of stress as work's being annoying. My immediate supervisor is having a few weeks off, and she wants me to fill in for her (which would also give me experience that would be good when another position becomes vacant in the near future). But her boss has someone else in mind, who has been doing a great deal of sucking up, and who is always very aggressive about being in control. No, I don't get on with him particularly. So that's all up in the air at the moment.
But now, and this is the big one, I had a whole heap of "reward points" from work that can be converted into trips away or exercise machines or coffee makers and things. And I decided to blow the lot on a weekend away for myself, my beloved
lederhosen and some close friends at a winery in Victoria. I emailed the Winery in Jan about possible dates, but I just found out today that they hadn't properly marked us in for the night we'd decided, so when a wedding party booked the entire facility, they lost our booking. I still have the accommodation vouchers (valid for 6 months), and a weekend in Victoria, and I'm sure I can find other things to do, but I am rather disappointed by this as I was looking forward to it an awful lot.
So yeah. The family is going to have to suffer now. Guilt meals, craftwork, and other similar things to make me feel better.
*sulk*

By the way, you'd need a lot more money to go visit
And have a lovely caterpillar. Seeing him always makes me feel better.

Date: 2006-04-04 01:00 pm (UTC)I promise I won't obsessively play with Lego, or cost you thousands of dollars.
I'll only maybe cost hundreds. :)
Dad too. Don't keep any spray-can whipped cream where he can find it!

Date: 2006-04-04 01:11 pm (UTC)And you, my dear, whatever you cost you will be a blessing and a wanted guest.
But I will charge you in hugs.

Date: 2006-04-04 01:50 pm (UTC)That's not what I heard ...
I'd offer you a son swap, but all I could promise would be that I'd cost you large amounts of money on something other than Lego. The ability to develop non-drug addictions seems to have a small genetic component.

Date: 2006-04-04 02:57 pm (UTC)Oops.
I knew it was genetic. Sorry - did I forget to warn you?
And for your information, sir, I whip my own. That is... um...
I think I'd better stop right there,

Dad'll never admit it publicly, but I hear it. Spray cans have a distinctive sound, especially when the contents are sprayed directly into a mouth.
