Why the dinosaurs because extinct.

Some of you may be aware that I love volcanoes, and when we went to Hawaii last year, my very beloved lederhosen arranged for us to fly around Kilauea.

So it was with great amusement that I viewed The White Island Volcano's Webcam in New Zealand, and noticed the figure in the picture. On the left. The purple one.

So I wrote to the observatory,

Greetings,

How long has there been a dinosaur population in the crater? I was most
amused to see it in the webcam.

(I'm assuming this is why the dinosaurs died out - stupidity and a
burning curiousity about volcanoes can't be a good combination).

Dino the dinosaur is the latest in volcanic monitoring equipment- cost us a fortune (no to mention the cost of feeding him!) He has been living on White Island since May 2005, and is the unofficial mascot of the White Island volcano cam...

Somebody's got a great sense of humor: personally, I would have put a Godzilla down there, but Dino works just fine on his own. It's only when someone starts putting Dinobots down there that we have any reason to be concerned.

I can't be the only one that saw that silly cartoon. I bet it would raise such a fundy stink today, what with all the talk of "dinovolving."
