Why the dinosaurs because extinct.

Some of you may be aware that I love volcanoes, and when we went to Hawaii last year, my very beloved
lederhosen arranged for us to fly around Kilauea.
So it was with great amusement that I viewed The White Island Volcano's Webcam in New Zealand, and noticed the figure in the picture. On the left. The purple one.
So I wrote to the observatory,
And have received the following reply, which has made my day:

How long has there been a dinosaur population in the crater? I was most
amused to see it in the webcam.
(I'm assuming this is why the dinosaurs died out - stupidity and a
burning curiousity about volcanoes can't be a good combination).

Dino the dinosaur is the latest in volcanic monitoring equipment- cost us a fortune (no to mention the cost of feeding him!) He has been living on White Island since May 2005, and is the unofficial mascot of the White Island volcano cam...
