Subverting the local paradigm
Sep. 10th, 2002 10:45 pmOne of the things I love about Geoffrey is the way we teach each other about our respective music and poetry tastes.
The other night we saw Donnie Darko and at the end is a very sweet, sad and slow version of "Mad World", (originally by Tears for Fears).
So I dragged out my vinyl version of "Songs from the Big Chair". It's hit a chord for Geoffrey, and he played it three times in a row.
Something similar happened when I first introduced him to Gary Numan.
This is no bad thing. After all, I'd never listened to Nine Inch Nails before I met him. Now we can compare and contrast the styles and influences. It's amazing how much in common the two sets of taste have.
