Geeks meet Daytime Television

It's an ad for Solar Electricity and Hot Water. But I lost it when they said "call and ask what size Solar System is best for you."

I think I'll have one with a G-class star, my planet about 147 million km out with a 23° inclination and a 23 hr 56 minute rotation, and a scattering of other planets, asteroids, moons and other objects, enough to make things look pretty but not enough for frequent impacts, please.

And a side order of a moon, for tides and stuff please.

ETA the "million" to the distance out. Otherwise - well, let's just say my Solar Rebate would be out of this world...

My first geeky crush has died.

Yes, I tend to fall for the mind before the body. Russell Johnson, who played the Professor in "Gilligan's Island", has died.

I hated the show. I never liked that sort of humour, and besides which, it started in Australia when I was a year old, and has resulted in 48 years of teasing about my name. But I thought the Professor was lovely.

Tomorrow is a sad day.

Tomorrow, lederhosen and da_norvegicus and I will be taking dogorcuton on his last car ride, to the local vet.

He's not been well, and his kidneys are starting to go. He's stiff and sore from the arthritis, and he can't see or hear very well any more.

But he still knows when there's bacon being cooked.

He's written up his last journal entry here and he's currently SNOOOOZING on his mat. Tonight he gets lots of cuddles and ear-rubs.
