Yes, I was in Melbourne.
Jun. 21st, 2007 12:15 amTo all my dear friends in Melbourne whom I didn't see in this last week, I apologise. But I'd had so many wild trips down and trying to fit in seeing too many people over too few days, that I deliberately kept this trip very low-key so that I could spend a little more quality time out there.
And now that I've finally caught up with 500 Journal-only entries...
Flew down Wednesday morning with my very beloved
lederhosen, and headed to the lovely home of
shadow_5tails and her wonderful
asawge, where I dumped my bags and grabbed the lass for an indulgent time up the Dandenongs. Returned after spending far too much money at the Olinda lolly shop, then met up with
shadow_5tails's grandparents and back to the katzen. Thursday was rather laid-back, (yummy pork roast and a non-event volcano DVD that turned out to be just a promotional "buy our set and then you'll get to watch real volcano pr0n"), and then off to the airport Friday morning to pick up
twiggystick (who hasn't actually posted but it's nice to be able to call him something).
As a) there really isn't enough room at the
shadow_5tails residence for three crashers, and b) the katzen and my nose don't love each other, I had arranged to stay at a set of serviced apartments, Darling Towers, which worked very nicely. Separate rooms, warm heater, good sized kitchen. Strongly recommended. Dressed like a pirate Friday night and danced like a maniac.
Saturdaysometime when we staggered out morning we hit the Vic markets and indulged the tastebuds, then dinner out on Saturday night for both the
twiggystick's and my birthdays.
Sunday morning was a real morning. I was foolish enough to believe someone who told us that the shops would be open from 10am so we could hit them before church at 11 to hear
shadow_5tails and
17catherines sing. Off to the great-aunt's afterwards, and then cheesy DVDs at Chez Ealanta, whilst munching the ill-gotten gains of Saturday morning. (Snuggled up with
lirion,
silverblue,
brandtotter,
asawge, the three of us Sydneysiders, and the insane cats of the Ealanta household).
Monday was wander around town time, (I am in so much trouble for showing
twiggystick into Mindgames. Meh. That's what budgets are for - breaking.) Also took the Twigg up the Dandenongs, and to dinner at a suitable restaurant for a cold wet night, but were very disappointed to find that you have to pay to look from the top of the mountain.
And Tuesday was a late breakfast of bacon and eggs, some quiet browsing around evil shops by me, and then a quick trip to drop
shadow_5tails back home before dinner and the Merlin Bird gig. Except that it didn't quite work out that way. By the time the hire car had made several hair-raising right hand turns into packed streets across completely full lanes, we really didn't have time to head back to the apartment as we'd planned, so we picked up
lirion and had dumplings in town, headed out for the gig then a fast pack and try to get some sleep before heading back to Sydney.
Adored dancing, and must do it more.
Loved watching the Twigg's face as he discovered Melbourne, and introducing him to dear friends. And thank you to the dear friends who accepted and welcomed him.
Totally loved spending special time with my very beloved
lederhosen, and spent quite some time checking out housing prices and possibilities at this end of the world.
Refuse to feel guilty about missing out on people. We'll catch up next time.
Am starting to learn the way the streets run. Just. Was eternally grateful for the directional help of many people. Especially on Tuesday night when the burst water main road chaos struck.
By the way, thank you to all the lovely B'day wishes. I had a lovely time, and am behaving worse the older I get :-)
