Marzipan carefully wrapped around the outside and left again to cure.
Carefully pushed right back on the table. But one of them had to be more forward than the other.
So I'll be re-making one of the two wedding cakes for my father-in-law, and trimming the gnaw-marks off the damaged one to turn it into a Christmas cake.
And the dog gets no food tonight.

I guess you at least have a month's lead time. May I suggest something like leaving the cake in the cold oven with the door slightly ajar, on a top shelf that you need to stand on a chair to reach, or in the library/guest room with the door shut, for next time?
