Two months in the cupboard, maturing.

Two days on the main bench, drying the outside.

Marzipan carefully wrapped around the outside and left again to cure.

Carefully pushed right back on the table. But one of them had to be more forward than the other.

So I'll be re-making one of the two wedding cakes for my father-in-law, and trimming the gnaw-marks off the damaged one to turn it into a Christmas cake.

And the dog gets no food tonight.

Oh dear, *wince* :(

the phrase, 'bad dog, no biscuit' doesn't seem quite appropriate here....

Last Christmas Eve my sister made a pavlova , she left it on the kitchen bench overnight and come Christmas Day she discovered her cat had wandered over the bench during the night and crushed the whole thing :-)

Several years ago, I had made a batch of peanut butter fudge and placed it in the "shed" to cool overnight. At least that's what we call it up this way. This is an uninsulated storage room attached to the back of the house (my folk's place).

Next morning, I found rodent tooth marks right down the middle of the fudge. That's when we discovered we had bushy-tailed squatters out there who were evicted soon after.

...Yeah. It may be horrible of me, but I don't have the ability to be tactful right now, and given that you seem to have a story like this about once every 2-3 weeks, you're right. You really should have learned by now.

Please learn from this one.

I guess you at least have a month's lead time. May I suggest something like leaving the cake in the cold oven with the door slightly ajar, on a top shelf that you need to stand on a chair to reach, or in the library/guest room with the door shut, for next time?

Yeah, this time I'd put the cake well back - and the bugger had got up ona chair. Trouble is these two are too big to put in a tin, and the shelves are somewhat full too.

It's a small nibble on the cake I was least happy with. But te dog is happy, damn him.

I suspect it's worth clearing a shelf for - the dog won't eat your crockery if it stays on the bench for a couple of days, or whatever. And given that he can jump on & off the bed/couch/etc, I can't say I'm surprised that he managed the chair when there was food in the offing...
