Hmmm. I'm thinking Prog rock, with a World Music Twist, and pretentions of social activism (although they like their sport too).

Ahhh - they're that Reggae band who came out many years ago, lots of bouncy songs whose inspiration was some of the more lively chants of the soccer fans.

Yep, that's us. Do you remember the lyrics to our hit single, Oxyporus latemarginatus?

[identity profile] reynardo.livejournal.com 2007-12-10 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
A sweet and lonely little shrub,
The edges grey and rather rubbed,
It languished in that hot, damp spring
Until it noticed one small thing -

A lump of fuzzy fungus white
Had crept inside and put the bite,
And now had taken all the bloom -
That poor benighted tree was doomed!

(And then you go pogo-ing all around the room yelling out "Doomed! Doomed! Doomed! Doomed! DOOMED!" until someone head-butts the punk and they start fighting. When the noise dies down, it's the coda...)

Oxyporus killed the tree
Late-r-marg-in-a-tus-free
is our dream, but we must die.
Free the trees or say goodbye.

It wasn't a great single, but gained some credibility with the greenies of the Deep South. Oh - and the people who like pogo dancing.

The band would have don efar better if they hadn't tried releasing the ska cover of The Secret Of Christmas as their try for the Christmas Single 1982. It was far, far better than Rene and Renato's "Save your love", but didn't have a hope.

They were that 80s punk band who sang during the Thatcher era about strike scabs and police brutality in the Midlands, weren't they?
