We got back after 4 weeks away, and yesterday I was too tired after travelling to check on the bunny.

This morning I went to clean his cage out, and noticed he had a very grubby face. And when I picked him up, he was thin. And not really moving much. And the grubby face was caked fur around near his mouth. And a grinding sound from his teeth (I thought at first it was a broken jaw).

So we rushed him to the vet, who diagnosed a large and nasty abcess on the jawline. X-rays revealed that the bone was involved, which changed the prognosis from "This might not improve" to "this is not going to get better, sorry". The vet was very sweet about it and gave him a hug before giving him the needle, and I picked up his body this afternoon.

I feel rather guilty, even if we were giving him more care than a lot of other people would.

We buried him next to the guineapig, in the vegie patch. I think I'll buy a few nice trees and put them in instead. A snowy gardenia for Snowhare.
