Webster's from 1913 is happy with it, so perhaps it's either an old-fashioned spelling or an Americanism. Many Americans don't distinguish between "enquiry" and "inquiry", after all.
I wonder whether if you spell the word wrong, you don't actually need anyone's endorsement to make this claim? You could define "Indorse" as "to ridicule and/or laugh at" and then claim that your had been "indorsed" by all sorts of people...
