No. Just ... no. Not on. No.
Mar. 19th, 2008 09:51 amIn the last 2 days we've lost both Arthur C. Clarke and Anthony Minghella. While Clarke's death is not a huge surprise (he'd been terribly ill from post-polio syndrome for years and had been confined to a wheelchair for the last couple of years), Minghella was still young. He died after an operation for throat cancer.
Best memories from Clarke: "Islands in the Sky" which was one of the first science fiction books I remember reading that was specifically for kids, and "The Nine Billion Names of God".
Best memories from Minghella: The Storyteller series, and Truly Madly Deeply.
And now it seems that Maggie Smith has breast cancer.
Not. Fair.
overhead, without any fuss, the stars were going out.
