Do they still use the RSA algorithm in PGP? That was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in mathematics, an encryption formula that easily fits on a 3x5 index card but is effectively unbreakable in realistic time.
It's a work requirement. I work for a company that has Defence Force contracts, and any computer that's taken off site *must* be encrypted so that if it's stolen or lost, people who find it can't read things that might be compromising.
It's generally a good idea if you don't want your secrets out.
