Believe it or not, there were even worse uniforms out there. I think it was one of the Scotch Colleges had something in multicoloured stripes that made them look like licorice allsorts.
Scarborough Senior High School, Perth WA. Us girlies had to wear a short thick gaberdine frock with a big zip up the front. Oh, and bright yellow. And it was see through, which was a good thing, otherwise how was anyone going to get the full effect of my red bra and garter belt sets? Bright yellow nail polish set the look off nicely. I have yet to see anything nastier, and you won't be seeing me in that colour again in any lifetime soon
Either that picture's too small to see the true horror, or it's actually not bad as far as school uniforms go.
There are some things in the States that are *truly* hideous - mostly because Americans would never send their public school students to school in sport coats, so you get all kinds of hideous gabardine trousers and polo-style sport shirts... And let us not forget the plaids...
Ye gods, compared to some of the school uniforms I've seen, those young men look downright classy. They could even go out in public in those....

Whew! {relievedlook) I thought it was just me! Compared to some of the horrible things out there, they DO look pretty good. {embarassedflick} Or are we just completely lacking in taste?
Never mind the uniform, give me a minute and I can probably tell you which corner of the Quad that is. *shudder*
You should warn us when you're going to do things like that. Some of us may have adverse reactions :) That doesn't capture the full horror of the brown, though, and in *my* day, the gentleman on the right would have been on detention for having his shoes in that state...
Ah, the good old days, eh? He may have been a bastard, but by God he ran a tight ship!
Actually, in many ways I had more respect for Big Jim Windeyer than for wotsisname Murray. You knew where you stood with Windeyer - old school, proud of it, and fair. Murray always seemed a bit ... I dunno. Progressive, in that "I haven't quite thought this through but it seemed to work at the Dragon school" kind of way.
Mind you, at the end of the day I fundamentally believe that 90% of boys between 6 and 18 (and probably 25) are absolute savages anyway, especially at an all boys school, so maybe it's just that Big Jims approach was more realistic.
Ye gods. This really is bringing back a lot of horrible memories.
I felt much the same about them. I can't say I really liked Jim (though I never had any trouble with him, personally), but I did respect him. You knew where you stood.
Tim Murray, on the other hand... He had a charming manner, but the more I saw of him the more insincere he looked. He'd say he was right behind you, but never seemed to be there when things got tough.
Besides which, he still owes me an apology for the whole School Colours incident...
