A little while ago I posted about why typeface temporal accuracy is important.

There actually is a reason for it.

Christie's were going to auction a poster from a very early Sex Pistol's gig, and the expected price was around $2000 US.
It was noted that the letters forming “land” in the word “England” appeared to be identical to Microsoft Comic Sans, a computer font not made available until 1995 with the release of Windows 95.

Also listed as dubious were such points as a) the year was listed (quite unusual in a band poster) and b) "it was properly punctuated (”since when do punks punktuate?”)".

But the typeface looks like it's won the day. And proved the point. And saved some poor soul from paying $2000 for a fake.

Oh - if you ever see a photograph around Sydney that purpotes to have come from the movie Logan's Run, and signed by both Michael York and Jenny Agutter, don't buy it. No, don't ask.

Wow. I try to keep up with Sex Pistols stories like this (an old friend was the lead singer for the band that opened for the Pistols at the famed Dallas show at the Longhorn Ballroom), and that's a great one. I'd have called Christie's on this one for most of the reasons mentioned (in particular, I KNOW that there was no promos like this for the Dallas show, even for the opening act the Nervebreakers, and apparently this was a deliberate scheme by Malcolm McLaren to prevent anybody in the American music business from actually seeing the band), but the font information was even better.

Now, what's funny is that I picked up a book at my local Half Price Books that still had a Butthole Surfers promo xerox from 1987 in it, and I know it's legit. Should I see if it's valuable?

I'd say yes. The worst they're going to do is laugh maniacally in your face then tell everyone else about you at dinner parties for the next 20 years, and Oscar Wilde had the right idea about that.

There is no Sanctuary.

Particularly because it got replaced by a Starbucks, leaving a generation of vampires with only memories.
