After the inspection last Monday, I was not surprised to get a call on Friday from the repair guy that showed up in May.

He showed up that afternoon, re-stated that the griller door spring couldn't be replaced and mentioned that the landlord and/or owner did not want to pay for the new stove. I asked if a simple hook could be put on the oven and he reckoned that the metal on the side was too thin and any rivets put through would pull out in a short time.

He then inspected the windows, and I asked again if a simple handle could be put on them. Apparently no, or at least probably not by him - the frames are metal and he wouldn't be able to drill through them.

So he said he would check what he had back at his base, and he could come around on Monday. Unfortunately, Monday I'm on a course, so he said he'd try to come on Sunday, and he'd ring before he came. Otherwise it would be Thursday.

No sign or sound of him today. I'll ring him in a break tomorrow to see if he *is* coming on Thursday. And I'll have a chat to my lovely contact at the VCAD. This isn't good, though.

This *is* after putting the forms through VCAD - this is just under one week from their inspection of the repairs needed. I think it's a delaying tactic to stop me going to the next stage - Tribunal.

Dude, that's horrible. It really sounds like the fuckers are doing everything they can to avoid spending money. But it's not good enought! Get VCAD onto them!

Oh agreed 100%. On Monday I'll be speaking to the guy I put the form in to.

Stupid question: will the oven work if you take the griller door off permanently? And if so, can it be taken off?

I ask this as someone who knows where to thump my parent's stove (after having adjusted the griller door just right) to have the oven door stay closed enough so that the fan forced electric oven (~20 years old) will actually turn on like you've told it to and not randomly open just enough to turn off again. When I moved out of home, I learnt that other stoves don't do that. It was a wonderful, wonderful revelation.

It would, but the griller door is also the handle needed to slide the grill tray out, so they'd need to put something in its place.

Ah. So it's closer to my parent's stove than my stove (which has a separate pull-thingy for the grill tray). Which means that duct tape is no use (unlike, for example, my parent's clothes drier, which has duct tape instead of a door latch and has had for ~10 years), and the likelihood is that replacement is the only option (my parents chose to put up with it rather than replace theirs, although if they were leasing the house, they'd have replaced it so as to not have to deal with tenants who don't know where to thump the stove).
