It's bitterly cold and raining, and we wanted to avoid town because of the football, so silverblue and chaos_crafter showed us a cafe in Belgrave that they like.

And as we were leaving, I noticed a second-hand book table. Most of the books were moden paperbacks, but there was one rather old hardback with an unreadable spine label, so I picked it up and opened it.

And there on the flyleaf was the signature of a previous owner.

Ronald Searle.

Now at this point, half of you are going "who?" and the other half are doing what I was doing:

OMFG Ronald Searle who created St Trinians and Nigel Molesworth and who drew the pictures for the Tom Lehrer Song Book and the Non-Sexist Dictionary and and and!!!!!

And it's MINE.

The book, by the way, is the first British edition of "The Web and the Rock" by Thomas Wolfe. Not bad for $3!

I saw a video not long ago of well-known philosopher John Searle giving a talk at a university, and the professor introducing him accidentally calls him Ronald Searle.
