Redheads feel pain more and are harder to anethesi... ant... are resistant to pain killers Old news to some of you, I'm sure.
But it explains a lot of instances.
...
At the Girly Doctors
"You'll feel a slight tug and no pain..."
After nose surgery
"So has this helped the pain, or is it still hurting?"
"Still hurting LOTS!"
"I'll try a bit more pethedine... how's that?"
"Still really sore! Could I have a bit more?"
(gives third shot)
"Dammit. No, I can feel my breathing slowing. I'll stop here. Ow."
...
Mammogram for possible lump due to constant mastitis whilst breastfeeding.
"Now this will cause a squeezing and slight discomfort. Hold still."
So, I'm not just a wuss. Or maybe I am. But when I say things hurt, GORRAM IT I MEAN IT!

(Slight comfort - seeing the stream of milk that shot out and hit the wall opposite, 8 feet away :-)So, I'm not just a wuss. Or maybe I am. But when I say things hurt, GORRAM IT I MEAN IT!

Date: 2010-01-08 03:42 am (UTC)Apparently, you don't want to be a redhead in a hospital; it's just all-around bad news.

Date: 2010-01-08 04:44 am (UTC)Oh gosh.... here goes ramble-itis...
Date: 2010-01-08 09:19 am (UTC)But for example I went through getting my appendix out and when I woke up they asked me if I was in pain. I said "No, I'm cold", and they decided to give me a pethidine shot. Came back a few minutes later - how are you feeling and all that - my response "I am still cold." Didn't actually feel in much pain at all - from memory it is no worse than when I did that first big workout at the gym or dance or wherever after a break. I still find it odd they didn't believe me when i said I was cold, considering it was fairly major surgery and I was probably in shock as is the normal response post surgery...
My sister survived with minimal medication when she had fibroids that apparently, by the time they removed them had caused a 5-6cm lateral shift of one of her ovaries - so all the ligaments and everything would have been out of alignment and she was in some pain, but I have met people who in the same condition would be curled up in a foetal position asking for morphine or similar...
So I would believe genetics play a role :D
And talking about dentists, I would strongly recommend laser dentistry if I had to get holes drilled again. I hate the sensation of the normal drill!Plus the anasthetic had bad side effects :(
I just hope that you don't get the side effects of anasthesia plus them not working!

Date: 2010-01-08 02:15 pm (UTC)We also need more anaesthetics and they take longer to wear off...
