Jan. 17th, 2010 08:37 pmHome made Pork Ball Soup
Ingredients:
200mls of ham stock made by boiling up the leftover bits from the Christmas ham. (I made 500mls so I've plenty left).
About the equivalent of a slice of ham, chopped roughly (The scraps from the ham worked like a dream here)
About a dozen of the pork balls you buy frozen from the Chinese grocery store
1/2 a zucchini, sliced into matchstick-thin slices
1 clove garlic
1/2 teaspoon of Hoi Sin, Soy, Pad Thai or other strongly flavoured condiment.
chili to taste
Thinly sliced spring onion (for them as can has 'em)
Boil stock.
Throw in garlic, sauce, chili (I'd have used 1 of those little red ones if I'd remembered to have some)
While still boiling, throw in the pork balls and the ham. Allow to simmer for however long the package says to boil the balls. (Usually about 8 mins)
One minute before the end, throw in the zucchini. Make sure there's just enough liquid to cover it.
Have two bowls ready with the spring onion in the bottom of them.
Ladle out the boiling soup into the two bowls. Serve hot and expect compliments :-)
