A dear friend is visiting, and as he hadn't been in Melbourne before, I dragged him around some of the evil wicked shops here. Bad me.

But alas, when we went to the anime shop, it was almost a disaster. The shop is on the 7th floor of a little office block near the corner of Little Bourke and Swanston, and so we hopped in the lift and pressed "7".

The lift moved so slowly I think even I could have beaten it.

The floor marker showed the floors taking almost a minute each.

It went to 7.

Then past it.

The light wasn't on for 7. I quickly pressed 8 to get us to stop there, then 9, then 10 and 11.

It didn't stop.

Until it creaked to a halt with 11 showing, but the doors didn't open.

We tried a couple of the other floor buttons, but nothing happened.

For about another long couple of minutes.

So we wondered if we were at Level 11, and pulled the doors open a little. Nope, between floors.

Then, as the doors re-closed, the lift started down.

Very...

Very...

Slowly.

And stopped and the doors opened at Level 10.

So we got out in a hurry, and walked down the stairs to Level 7, and perused the pretty things at the Anime shop, and then walked down the last 7 floors because neither Rohan or I wanted to spend the rest of the afternoon staring at the pretty but limited-appeal pressed metal walls.

And then we hit more shops :-)

Oh l empathise, having that sort of experience in a lift is more than unsettling. I work in an office building with incredibly dodgy lifts. Glad you however had a shopping led recovery :-)

Oh dear. It makes me kind of glad it was closed when we first spotted it. Next time I'm down, though, I guess I'll have to get that extra bit of exercise.

Incidentally, having looked at their online catalogue there are actually a few things that look interesting (normally I can go through a store's entire collection without being particularly inspired).

Unfortunately one of the things that looked interesting is a tiny little silver emblem on a little clasp that cost $80, so I'm probably not going to get that one any time soon ...

The elevator was trying to prevent you from escaping with this in your clutches.

Rey is a symp!

Maybe they're testing out the elevator as an amusement park attraction, and simply haven't phased in the part where it plunges for a few floors before grinding to a halt just in time.

Sounds like great fodder for a scary short story!
