London is bidding to host the 2014 World Science Fiction Convention. To launch their bid, they put together a video that is made of pure hammered awesome.

And then he linked to this:

Which needs to be watched 3 times.

1 for the sheer "hammered awesome".

1 for "Ok, now what were all those bloody clips from?"

and 1 for "And what else would I have used in it?

The most common comment? Why would you hold a convention in a city that explodes so often?

Beasts. It's so annoying when we get the same issue. (We couldn't watch Dr Horrible here on Hulu for the same reason).

Oh that is brilliant... now I must save up and go watch the Daleks invade...

Or the Cybermen...

OR King Kong!!

Why does Big Ben get destroyed so often in these things? I know its iconic, but so are many other things in London :D

Very cool, a lot of nice choices too. I've only watched it the once, but I believe I counted 12 separate Doctor Who stories in there, not to mention all the other stuff (recognised a lot, but not all).

Not enough triffids. Nowhere NEAR enough triffids. They and London go together like rum and Coke.

Heh. Blowing things up. Londoners would join the ranks of people from areas like Metropolis, Coast City, Gotham and Malibu who couldn't possibly get insurance because of too many superhero/villain building-masher fights.

Back when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was running, I had to wonder about the glazier business in Sunnydale. For about two years, the way everyone would throw each other through windows, that business would be great. After about Year Three, that's when the insurance companies would cut off all window claims in the town, and everyone just settles for plastic sheeting and duct tape.

I'm truly amazed that there weren't any clips from Quatermass and the Pit and Gorgo in this, but that's just me. (What's funny about the images of the Crystal Palace Exhibition is that Dallas has its own copy in the Infomart.)

As for holding a convention in a city that explodes so often, now you understand why New York and Tokyo haven't had a Worldcon in years. I don't even want to think about Los Angeles. (This is why I was hoping that Fort Worth would get the Worldcon bid in 2013. Sadly, the wankers in Austin pretty much scuttled any hope of that.)

I've just re-watched that, and while there's no "Quatermass and the Pit" (either the movie or the old television series), the battered street sign is from The Quatermass Conclusion (John Mills, Rebecca Saire). I think. It's been years since I saw it.
