And so it begins.

Five phone messages in the past two hours.

I'm expecting about a hundred in the next 24. Maybe 200, if we're lucky.

:)
So....
What do you do if there is no-one home on the night of the referendum?
And what counts as being home that night? Sleeping there, or being there at some arbritart point in the night?

It's the "did you sleep at this house" rule. If you're a shift worker, if you had your "sleep time" there, it counts.

Which means there will be some interesting points where mother says "but my daughter was at home last night" and boyfriend is putting her down at another location...

If no-one's sleeping at home that night, fill the form out accordingly, or if you know in advance (say, for instance, if your half-renovated home had a form left there), ring the Census people, give them the number on the form and say "no-one at home". Then the collector will get an SMS about it.

Dear census collector - there will be no-one at home that night. You will find the ground-floor windows are just sheets of plastic - please try not to scratch the paint as you take everything. :)

Pity it's sleeping there though - I'd rather fill it all in for that place, and put no-one home at our current one.

(chuckle) sounds similar to what happened around here in our census last year. There are a LOT of "vacation homes" (we call them camps) in Maine. And some poor census workers had to trudge through snow to put census forms on every one of them back in March...and follow-up in April...and follow-up in May...all because the Feds required them to do so, even though said census worker KNOWS it's a seasonal dwelling and there was no one home on the official census day back in March/April. So, he/she continues to follow-up on the place into June...And finds this renter at one of them who provided them the name of the camp owner so the owner could explain that it's a seasonal dwelling and no one was in the building back on whatever date in March that the official census count was to take place on.
