Meme: Nine truths and a lie.
Stolen from
loganberrybunny, and with no obligation on anyone to do it.
Here are nine truths and a lie about me. Which one's the lie?
1. One of my secret fears is slugs and snails.
2. I was once close to an IRA bomb.
3. I was a mad keen Bay City Rollers fan.
4. I won first prize in an Australia-wide Girl Guide First Aid competition.
5. Instead of just letting me pick the regular 5 books off the list for the Brownie reading badge, my mother made me read all of them.
6. I have Tom Baker's signature and one of his (very old) Dr Who jelly babies in a box.
7. I've marched three times in the Sydney Mardi Gras.
8. I've served alcohol to one of Australia's former Prime Ministers and a High Court Judge.
9. My grandmothers were Marjorie and Nancy.
10. My son
da_norvegicus's birth was announced on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald.
I'll leave this up for a week. Have fun! (And do state why you've chosen a particular one as the lie. I'd love to see your reasoning).

I don't think your mom had to make you read all of them — I think you came up with that idea yourself.

Reasons for not choosing the others?
1: Seems quite likely; my dad has the same fear.
2: I have a vague (albeit possibly faulty) memory of your mentioning this somewhere.
3: See 2.
4: I reckon you got this one for showing extra resourcefulness somewhere.
5: This was my other potential choice, for exactly the same reason
6: This one has got to be true!
7: -
8: Much less unlikely than it sounds at first hearing.
9: I have absolutely no idea about this, but it's too straightforward to be an interesting lie.
10: For all I know the SMH may have run a "baby of the day" column in those days...

I'm sure your father would have found a way for 10 to happen. 7 is something you regularly, proudly (& rightly) boast of, so no dice there. As for 8, hasn't everybody??!! Tom Baker came to Australia as Dr Who in the early 80s promoting Prime Computers & all us schoolkid fans got to see/meet him at least once, so 6 is highly likely. 2 is also something you've told me before & given your mothering tendencies & capabilities 4 would be no surprise at all. 9 would only be an interesting lie if those were your grandfathers names...
I agree with Michiexile ~ 5! You being you, you'd have read them all for fun, no duress needed.
Although, knowing how keen a gardener you can be, number one doessound a bit unlikely...

No, we didn't (sniff). This huge Tom Baker fan was aware of him appearing at a shopping centre a few suburbs away, but my parents were busy and unable to take me. I had buried the trauma of this event until now, but you've reminded me! Argh!
Although my dad did bring home a Tom Baker Prime Computer poster from work in 1980. It was prominently displayed in my room for many years, even after my brother accidentally ripped it while waving his belt around. At the time I would almost have rather the belt buckle had hit me instead.
I was absolutely delighted when he married Lalla Ward. Later I couldn't understand why they spilt up. Much later still I learned what an unhealthy relationship it was, although I still can't understand why Lalla had to marry Richard Dawkins.
Er, yes, anyway, enough of my Tom Baker obsessions...
