I knew I could rely on my friends.
Jan. 31st, 2003 07:54 pmRe: my last entry.
Last night the wind didn't change and yet the glow slowly subsided, and instead of being woken at 4am by the Bush Fire Brigade telling us to prepare, the alarm went off at the normal time.
The sky was clear.
The air was cool.
This evening it started raining.
The fire guys informed me that they'd had a perfect back-burn (where they start another fire in front of the main blaze and the two join up and the big one can't now cross the newly-burnt patch). So often the rain is early and puts out the smaler back-burn fire. Sometimes the backburn gets out of control. Sometimes the wind changes and the size of the smaller blaze isn't enough to stop the large one taking over.
This time it went like a dream. Now the rain will put out the remnants, and we've been spared again.
So thank you all those who appealed to the required deities and invoked the blessings.
It worked.

Date: 2003-01-31 06:23 am (UTC)OTOH, that might have brought the rain to Canada, where we definitely don't need it, what with all this snow and ice around anyway.
