When the flame wars get too much.
Jan. 31st, 2003 11:48 pmI enjoy my crafts. I enjoy learning about them from people with greater access to the documents of history that I can get (in a country with only 250 years of European settlement, we're a bit short of examples of medieval knitting).
So when the Historical Knitting list erupts every few days with yet another take on "nalbinding vs. knitting in old samples", it gets depressing.
And when my mailbox fills with 200 messages in 5 days of which most are tense, civil, rather strained arguments going around and around in circles, it's too much.
I have the links to the Victorian mitten patterns and the pictures of the knitting Madonnas. I can search for sprang instructions and how to find and use a clew any time I need. And one of these days I'll make myself a niddy-noddy.
But, alas, I've had it with the flame wars.
Besides, have you any idea of the stink that rises from burnt wool?
Oh, okay

Date: 2003-01-31 03:16 pm (UTC)Effectively, it's between a few people, each claiming that they as experts can tell that X is true (or Y or Z) and the others telling them that no, they're wrong and really it's Y (or Z or X). So it's about telling people they're wrong. Which no-one wants to hear.
