... but not like this!

stoned

stoned

We'll be lucky if we haven't sustained damage to our Solar Panels - the large ones were crashing down "like cricket balls" (to quote a friend). Our car was fortunately under a tree, and is only covered in leaves.

Our friends [livejournal.com profile] baroquestar, [livejournal.com profile] middle_marker and their little ones were sharing Christmas Lunch with us, and we'd noticed a few rather ominous looking clouds heading over. Twenty minutes later the rattle of the stones began. Little Miss M, (age 6), was thrilled to see the stones, and we watched in safety from the verandah and the back patio. Things had just calmed down when the first serious THUMPS came through. Now I know how the people of Pompeii felt, dammit!

It's gone dark again, although sunset isn't for more than two hours - we're having our fourth wave of extreme storm and there are reports of a tornado in a town to the west. Luckily the stones now are back to tiny - only 15mm diameter.

Second wave - up to 4cm

The first wave of stones were about 2cm across and regularly round and haloed. The second wave of larger ones were aggregates that measured up to 4cm.

Melbourne Christmas is guaranteed to be unpredictable.

Excuse us, there seems to have been a clerical error. You seem to have been assigned our weather.

Unfortunately we haven't got yours. Cold, wet and soggy here. I'm sure we'll track down the culprits though.

That middle hailstone looks suspiciously bunnylike.
