I started with 170 socks. 10 of those were "legacy" socks that have been sitting unpaired for the last *cough* some years. So I'll use those as the margin of error.
And the answer of 'how many matched sock pairs are there?' is...

Forty-one pairs. That means 82 socks could be matched up and distributed to their respective owners.
Ignoring the 10 legacy socks, this means there were 78 unmatched socks left strewn around the couch when I finished. They've been thrown back into the well of lost soles, and maybe, just maybe, the latest pile of washing out of the boy's room will help some of them find a mate.
