If I have no idea who you are, can't see any friends in common, and your "friends" request has just turned up, I'll drop you a message.

If you haven't got messages enabled (or any other way to contact you apart from accepting the request) then I'm not going to accept it. I don't just "friend" anybody on Facebook - they have to be someone I actually know. I might not have met you face-to-face (*waves at gilly_sirl*) but I do have to have the equivalent of an old-fashioned "Letter of Introduction".

Oh. Yes. Except for the ex-boyfriend creep of so many years ago. I'm happy to leave him on "pending" status. Petty, but fun.

It is the same with me, my friends on FB are people I know face to face, old schoolmates, friends from University. Some few like cathepsut circa  and yady I have never met personally so far, but in a way known for so long.
Many I have permanent on the restricted list, so they see only my public entries. On FB I mostly post in german, as most are German or even understand german
