Am I being mean?

My assignment is on the process of editing and how students these days are encouraged to write drafts, edit, check with their peers and then publish a polished final work.

Would it be mean of me to use a quote from a story on The Pit of Voles as an example of why editing skills are so desperately needed?

(Not thinking of any story in particular, but there are so many that make excellent "before" examples.)
