A friend of mine who is aged 20 is travelling to California, and wants to take some Australian wine as presents. The rule about *buying* alcohol is that you must be over 21. But if she's bought the wine in Australia (legally- our alcohol-buying age is 18), is she allowed to carry it legally in California?

I don't know for sure, but this sure looks like "sorry, no":

http://www2.courtinfo.ca.gov/stopteendui/teens/educate/laws-regarding-drugs-alcohol-and-driving.cfm

"It is against the law for you to possess alcohol on any street, highway, or public place; or carry alcohol in a car; or be a passenger in a car carrying alcohol unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, even if the container is sealed and in the trunk."

Drat - thanks heaps, Hugger. Blast. She'll be restricted to Tim Tams instead then.

I dont think so. This is California, a state that regulates everthing including breathing.
