Well that was a bit odd...
Sep. 24th, 2013 10:12 amThose of you who follow the goings-on at this remote southern end of the world will be aware that the right-wing Liberal/National Party coalition was voted in a couple of weeks ago, with Tony Abbott as Prime Minister. One of his very first acts as Prime Minister was to dismantle the Climate Commission, the Australian body that was trying to work on climate change and find ways to help stop it.
The head of the Commission, Professor Tim Flannery, announced yesterday that the commission's work would be continued instead by a volunteer organisation he was creating called the "Climate Council", and it would have the twitter account @ClimateCouncil.
This morning, the twitter account has been suspended.
Some people on twitter are saying it's because it was too popular, with so many people trying to join it that it triggered Twitter's filters automatically. If that were the case, though, wouldn't @justinbieber have been closed down long ago? There are strong suspicions that the account has been subjected to a barrage of fake "spam" notifications or something similar.
Either way, something's very, very odd here.
ETA: After 2.5 hours off air, the twitter is back up. Still not sure why it went down in the first place though.

Oh shit. Dirty tricks. Shit. Shit. Shit.
This alongside the moves of Abbot to bring in a law which will allow businesses to sue those who complain about their environmental practices...
Oh, and declaring all information about refugee boat interceptions to be classified...
I know people were joking about a police state, but bloody hell, this is worse than anything I believed them capable of. I mean, I expected Abbot to sell off infrastructure and destroy the environment, but trying to wipe out all information that contradicts his agenda, including gagging anyone who disagrees with him...
... words fail me.
Except expletives.
I mean, if he's doing this in his first week, what the hell will he do later on? Dismantle Australia's democracy altogether? I'm beginning to believe that if he could think of a way of doing so, he would.
Shit. Shit. Shit.
