Once upon a time there was a movie...
May. 5th, 2003 03:47 amAnd the movie looked at the ways and means some Political Types in the US used to get the spotlight off their own seriously naughty business, by focussing on the real or imaginary flirtations of the opposition.
And the movie looked at the creation of a Great Satan and how again a war against him would take the spotlight of such wrongdoings as the spending of Government Taxpayer funds on the Political Types' little projects.
And the movie looked at how the media either toed the line, or were kept right out of the loop.
And how, if the media were to criticise the Political Types, then that media was labelled "un-American" and "unpatriotic", and worst of all "Traitorous".
And how the advances towards civil rights and racial and sexual equality that the 60s gave were being re-wrapped as "a dark stain" and a time of "lawlessness and immorality".
It's a comedy.
It's also the scariest movie I've ever seen, and it's even more scary today.
