David Bowie has taken his last bow.

This is "My Death" from the movie Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

Not one I knew already, but it's so appropriate. I first saw the man on Top of the Pops, in the 1973/4 resurrection of "Space Oddity". lederhosen and I went to the exhibition at ACMI a little while ago, and then watched "The Man who Fell to Earth" a few weeks back. And while it's not officially his life, I adore "Velvet Goldmine".

I also saw him in "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence", and of course, "Labyrinth".

And now the Goblin King has left us. No more "Dance, Baby, Dance". No more Laughing Gnome.

It's hitting me harder than I thought, and I'm very sad to hear it.

Predictably, there are people on LJ dredging up unsubstantiated stories of underage groupie sex in the 1970s & pledging to "hate him forthwith" & be "glad he's burning in hell"

Until I see evidence that he actively targeted underage girls, I'm chalking it up to rock'n'roll hedonism in the day & comment only that if you were dressed up, made up, underage & backstage, throwing yourself at rock stars, what did you think was going to happen??!!?? Certainly what you were pretty sure you wanted to happen...

I can see a group in a bar in heaven. A bunch of them are ripping up sweepstake tickets that say "Iggy" and "Keith", and walking away in disgust.
