Yup. So much fanon. And a story which doesn't make all that much difference because time travel. (And apparently, time turners don't work as was described in the the actual novels because, convenience.)
I'm a fan of the "it was always like that", so even with time travel, things won't change. Prisoner of Azkhaban worked for me because the whole thing was one single timeline - not the "oops - squished a butterfly" genre.
