Rant Alert
Jul. 19th, 2001 07:00 pmWe tried a new ISP.
Our current ISP has shocking newsfeed at the best of time, and will not give a straight story when asked.
The new one promised Telstra newsfeed and good service and no dropouts.
So we subscribed. And none of the alt.naughty-type-of-newsgroups were available. And the newsfeed they were getting was spotty and inconsistant. And we kept getting dropped off every hour.
They required 5 days notice of leaving before the end of the month. But then their Katoomba server went dead, their email went unanswered, their phone line went unanswered, and there was no contact. Then email started bouncing and the site wouldn't even respond to a ping.
Finally on the 30th of the month they came back up. So I emailed them cancelling the service and pointing out that due to their non-contactability, we had been unable to contact before, but that the service was cancelled, and that I wanted my money back for the last 2 months where they hadn't provided the service they promised.
And I contacted my credit card and told them to block the July payment (which was a payment in advance) and Visa said "Fax us and we'll stop it".
And they didn't stop the payment.
And now Visa say it takes 15 days to stop these payments, which does not meet with the ISP's stated 5 days.
So is it worth fighting for $33, perhaps $66?
Dammit.
And I still don't have a reliable ISP.
