Miss Nicki
frou_frou asked and I
1) Have you ever cut your lovely long red hair short? If so, what on earth possessed you?
It was short for about 14 years before I decided to grow it. At age 11 I was always being mistaken for a boy, having shot up in height but not yet developed girl-bumps. I do remember that short hair took no time to brush, no time to wash and dry, and was rather nice. However, i am vain enough to enjoy the comments about it now.
I do think about cutting it short from time to time, especially when it gets very cold and damp in winter. Then someone new comments on the length and colour, and my pride is raised again...
2) What were your first thoughts upon meeting ratboy?
Boy or Girl? (We were sort-of expecting a girl). 10 fingers and toes? Yup! Gee - he's heavy enough. So compact, so solid a bundle. God I could do with a cup of tea. Ouch. (That's when the tear got sore). MUM! You could have waited five minutes!
Apart from that it's a bit of a mystery - I was rather tired and very very hungry.
3) When are you moving to Melbourne?
As soon as we can find a suitable job for Geoffrey down there. Believe me, we're looking.
4) What is your favourite item of lingerie and why?
Proper stockings with a suspender belt and a pair of silk undies over the top. I di like real stockings - mainly because pantyhose have a bad way of falling down with me.
5) What's the worst thing you've ever done to someone who mis-pronounced your first name?
I don't think I've ever done worse than snap at them or ignore them. No - hang on. The teasing of "Gilligan's island" got bad enough once that I flew at the teaser. Bad move when she's 10 and surrounded by also-teasing friends and I'm 7. I don't believe I landed a blow.
And, as number three is really a trick question, I have an supplementary question:
S) If you could be anyone in history, who would you choose and why?
Difficult. I'm wavering between a suffragette in the 1910s and one of the landowning female Feudal Lords in the 1200s - after John but before the Wars of the Roses.
Of course, if you want the Mary-Sue situations, there's the prisoner of war in Colditz, with Bonnie Prince Charlie escaping across Scotland, or a schoolteacher in the frontier of the USA.
