Good, bad, otherwise.
Nov. 3rd, 2003 12:42 pmOn the good side, we had a lovely quiet housewarming on Saturday night, and a couple of couples stayed last night as well. A fish-and-chips dinner, excellent wine, warm friends, silly card game, and the quote of the night.
We'd been discussing "Sexpo", the convention held in Sydney where they sell everything from yummy pink cordial and coffee syrups to R rated movies and leather cuffs. Somehow one person didn't realise the conversation had moved on from the Royal Show, so in the middle of the Sexpo talk he said:
"But it costs $50 and for that you only get a couple of rides and a showbag."
Quote reproduced from memory. May not be word-for-word but the meaning is the same.
Got to hug baby Emily, long coffee-morning talks with
stilkil, excellent time with
miasmakat and
silvernean, too much silliness with
lordstorm who is only too obviously a long-lost family member, other friends from Uni and the
shinyshinyelves game, and now the house is officially warm.
Got an email from my mother late last night, though, to say that my Aunty June is in hospital and not expected to last another 36 hours. She had progressive heart failure, she'd been down in Sydney a couple of weeks back for an operation to make things better, but it looks like her body has just said "no, that's enough. I'm retiring now." She was always a dear, and a member of WIRES Wildlife Rescue for many years. She named her animals, she always had a joey (baby kangaroo or wallaby) in the yard saved from a roadkill, a very no-nonsense lady who took in her sister's child and raised it as her own when family troubles hit. She will be sadly missed, but it's a quiet mourning for a body finally having a well-earned rest.
And otherwise I'd better go give my son his lunch he left at home. Kids...
