20 questions about music (borrowed from a lot of my friends)

1. A song from the last record you bought

"Songs from the Wood" by Jethro Tull. Mind you, it's been so long since I bought a record, I think it was the last one. Must sort my vinyl.

2. A blues: not a necessarily a blues record but a song that is labeled (something) blues

"Shot of Rhythm and Blues" - Suzi Quatro.

3. A song that gets you going in the morning

"Our House" by Madness. Actually, almost anything by Madness.

4. A song that you think is romantic

Dexy's Midnight Runners - "Let's Make This Precious".

5. One of the earliest records that you can remember listening to.

Daddy Cool - "Daddy Cool". Or "Puppet on a String" by Sandy Shaw. Yes, they were records, and yes I am that old.

6. A song that you discovered from a film

"Tu Vuo' Fa l'Americano" from Talented Mr. Ripley

7. A song from your favorite band / artist

"You Take my Breath Away" by Queen

8. A song from an artist or band that you otherwise don't like, but like this one

"Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps" by Doris Day. (the slow rumba in "Strictly Ballroom")

9. A Lullaby.

"Throw your arms around me" by Hunters and Collectors. (Hey, it's a bedtime song, yes?)

10. A song that makes you laugh / you find funny

"Taking my Oyster for Walkies" by the Goodies.

11. A really good cover version

"Jealous Guy" by Bryan Ferry.

12. A song that reminds you of school days

Ohhh - different schools, different songs.

"Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" for first primary school - every other girl in class had watched "Young Talent Time" the night before and was singing it. By the end of the day I knew why I never watched that.

"The Hustle" by Van McCoy or "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks for English primary.

"Oh boy" by Mud for English High School (I refuse to admit to Brotherhood of Man)

"Bohemian Rhapsody" bridged from England back to Aus - left just as it dropped from number 1 in the UK, and got to Aus as it hit Number 1.

"Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by Ac/Dc for Aus high school.

13. A song from an artist that you are embarrassed to admit you like

"I wish we'd all been ready" by Larry Norman. Shaddup.

14. Whatever it is, it's got to be funky.

Just about anything we used to dance to in 1974. And "Woody and Dutch on the Slow Train to Peking" by Ricki Lee Jones.

15. A song for those quiet rainy days

"So Far Away" by Carole King.

16. A song that no matter when you hear it makes you 'Feel good'

"You Make Me Feel (like a natural woman)" - donesn't matter if it's Carole, Aretha, Bonnie - they al do it for me.

17. A song with the word 'Look' in the title

"Look of Love" by ABC - although I prefer "Poison Arrow"

18. A song from a member of the 'Dead rockers society'

"Ride a White Swan" by T-Rex (Marc Bolan)

19. Your favorite Elvis song.

The hiss at the end of the record that tells you it's finished... This will give you an idea of how desperate I was to even think of a Vegas Elvis wedding last year.

20. Wildcard - Hey, just put any song you like on!

"City of New Orleans" by Arlo Guthrie.

Probably not a coincidence. I imagine Derek was at least partly inspired by Lemmy...

Derek Smalls!
