What really frightens me is that I recognize the purple one from an adult-products catalog that was definitely not supposed to be making the rounds through my high school girls' dormitory...
... and that I remember this after fourteen years.
That purple one has had a few look-alikes that I've seen. All a similar idea. And certainly one that will stick in an impressionable young mind. :) The sleek black one is also familiar.
What scares me are the first two. What was that? Fourier devices for Lonely Does? Nineteen-fifties massagers?
"Now, with the dual purchase of a New Frigidaire and Gillevator Range Top, you can have this Personal Massage Device, for those long nights cooking casserole's for a husband who works late on the job! Yes this too can be Yours!..."
Yup . The original "Stress Release Massagers" were these large steel objects that plugged into the mains. You were supposed to massage your neck and shoulders with them, but doctors started prescribing their use for "Nervous Tension" in the 1910s-1920s and of course a lot of women were already using them for that.
